She Knows

That is the best way to sum up today. She knows. She knows it's going to hurt, she knows we're not there to hang out and have fun. She knows when to take a deep breath for vitals, she knows that tape is sticky and that's bad. She knows she can pick whatever show she wants and we'll let her watch it for however long she wants. And there are goldfish, lots of goldfish. Which, that's a whole other conversation...the snacks they have at the hospital do not match up with the goals that are trying to be accomplished....I'll save that for another day.

We dropped S & J at Grandma's and it sounds like they had a ball. Walked all the way down to the dollar store and mcdonalds. They got to spend a couple hours with Liz and Dan in the afternoon before they dropped them off. Thank you!

Surgery was nice and prompt. Other than the staff seeming a little off because of being in the newly remodeled surgery area, it was a good experience. She went in just before 10am, and we went back to see her close to noon. She was less grumpy waking from general anesthesia than when she's coming out of sedation. Still grumpy and rude, just not as much :)

There was some confusion with the transition from surgery to clinic, but we finally got in a room and after lots of waiting, more vitals, more waiting, we started the infusion of Nivolumab (also known as Opdivo). The actual infusion took 60 minutes. We got to the hospital at 8:30am and got home about 6:30pm.  I don't think Dr Holly is usually in the clinic on Fridays, but she was right there to greet us and I was glad to see her face.

We've given her Tylenol, but she still says it hurts. Although, it can't be much because when she's distracted it goes away :)  She seems hesitant to turn her neck (there is a patch on the side of her neck), and for a while told us she couldn't walk. Mental games with a 3 year old are tricky.  We will go back in 15-20 days for another dose. Now we will just wait and see, monitor for any side effects and hope this med will help.

Oh man, there is nothing more exhausting than a day in the hospital. I hope she's feeling well and that drug is doing its job!
