water

I'd love to spend the next hour writing how I feel and all about things, but instead here is a recap of stuff.

Went to Bear Lake where we got to use part of a time share someone from someone Mark knows.
Stopped at Jody's cafe in Evanston on the way

The house. Was big. Kids loved it.

I loved the views!

Ruby caught a fish! Thanks Chase :)
Boo lights at the Zoo

A visit with Jenn while she was in town. All 3 of us went to my mom's ward to hear her teach Relief Society. Loved it.

When sisters are at school, I love having 1 on 1 time with this lady. She cracks me up. And sometimes falls asleep by me.

The last few days I've had braxton hicks type contractions, which is normal for me. But in the evening they got more intense and frequent. Went to the hospital. They have me fluids and a shot of Terbutaline. So thankful it stopped them. Because of the type of c-section with Ruby, and possibly having placenta previa this time, its dangerous for me and baby if I go into labor. I didn't cry or get mad or emotional but was quiet. It was scary to me. Apparently I have a bladder infection and didn't know it. They think that's what caused the contractions. I was so happy to hear that actually!  Liz came over with the girls and put them to bed. We were gone about 4 hours and total I took it easy but still did the usual cooking and trip to costco. I'm on an antibiotic and am trying to drink as much as I can.

Right when I felt we needed to go to the hospital, Mark was helping Siri make a contraption for the egg drop at school today. He finished it late late after we got back from the hospital. Siri was proud to take it to school and although the egg broke, she's glad she participated. Dads are awesome participation helpers :)

"They're stable"

Skip to the important parts...Dr Holly asked how Ruby was feeling. I said good, why how should she be feeling? What did the scan show?  "They're stable" she said. They haven't changed. I started crying. No new lesions. Sigh. Relief. Thankfulness to Heavenly Father for hearing my (our) pleas.

Here is my post from Instagram yesterday

I've been praying to be able to handle what news we'd hear today. For a long time I have prayed to accept what God has in store for us. But this time I really did plead for my personal desire for the cancer to not get worse. The holidays, new baby coming in December, I wanted to picture our family doing all these things with Ruby. Things can change, cancer can grow rapidly or shrink without us understanding. For now I just cry with joy and am so very thankful. The tumors in her lungs haven't grown and there are no new lesions. Thank you people for your prayers and love!

This picture. Mark is so good helping Ruby cheer up. She was sad and nervous as we put her port cream on in the morning (have to do it at least an hour before to numb the skin so she can't feel as much when they access her port). He had her put cream and a piece of press n seal on his chest, just like she had. He played her favorite songs on the way to the hospital. He held her hands while she was in the scanner. In the picture above we were waiting to see the dr. He gets out the stethoscope and pretends he's the doctor, checking her feet and cheeks as she crunched her goldfish.

I was bracing myself for yesterday to be different, to be heavy, to have to make decisions for Ruby. I am grateful that it was a sunshiny amazing day without any of those things. My sis in law brought delicious dinner. I picked up the house before the appraiser came (we're trying to refinance). I made applesauce with apples from a neighbors tree. Took a little snooze with Ruby. I really was trying to wake her up from her nap, but I ended up falling asleep myself. Walked to the park with the girls. Went to Liz's spin class at the gym. Watched part of a movie with the girls. Wrote in my journal, read scriptures, listened to a General Conference talk. There was no homework, piano practice or chores done, but those things can be done today.

So what now?  Because Dr Holly (or any dr that I know of) doesn't know what to do for a 3 year old with stage IV melanoma, we will keep not doing any treatment. The choices we do have if the tumors grow, don't have any specifics on likelihood of working, and if so it could be single digits. We will get her port flushed every 30 days. Not sure yet if we'll do a scan in another 2 months. If she continues to feel good and how we feel about things, we may wait until January.

After Ruby's scan, we met our neighbor and visited her daughter Katy who is inpatient right now. Can I request prayers for them? Katy has had health issues all her life. She's 17, has had a double lung transplant and just got diagnosed with cancer for the second time. I don't know how Christina, Katy's mom, is able to be so cheerful and keep it together. If you live in our neighborhood, let me know if you have time to help them with a little yardwork :)  And thinking of Alexis as she has surgery today. They are going to remove as much of the melanoma tumors in her neck as they can.

We all will pass on from this life eventually. With Ruby having something inside her that could kill her, but isn't, makes me feel like God is being merciful and letting us have more time with her. I hope though that I can feel that way about myself, family, those around me. That I can appreciate more the chances we have to get together for dinner, exercise, say hi in the grocery store, pray for each other. Thank you to you reading this. You help make our lives easier by your love and prayers and service!

gauchos

After Siri's baptism and lunch and everything, Mark and I did yardwork. I don't have as many options in my wardrobe as normal, so I naturally put on my gauchos.  And I was wearing crocs. The combo was amazing. Comfort and function at its finest.

Just a few minutes ago I was taking a sec to veg, check my email, news, instagram on my phone on the couch. I saw a couple posts about a girl who went through hell with lukemia but is doing better now. A 3 year old boy who passed away this morning.  I started bawling. Trying to get the air inside my lungs, sobbing. After a few minutes I carried on.  Its been so easy, thankfully, to have everything as normal. Happy. Healthy. Melanoma in Ruby's lungs is surprisingly easy to forget about sometimes.

I am glad though to have that moment to cry. I will squeeze her and the other girls and be more thankful for them when I see them in the morning. I will blog tonight instead of tomorrow during the day so I can be with them, go on a walk together, have them tell me about what treasures they have collected.  Cancer is just the worst. Without the sorrow of life, we wouldn't understand the joy. As I looked across the kitchen through my tears I saw a quote on the fridge "He is with us". I go to church every Sunday, I say my prayers, Siri was baptized today, yet I still needed that reminder that our lives are eternal. That God is real. That He is with me no matter what. That although I don't know how, I'll get through whatever will come my way.  Because often times I wonder how I will do and cope with what is coming. Hello, just having a newborn is enough to try me.

Let's talk about today though. In our church, you can choose to be baptized when you're 8 (or older). You are confirmed and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost through someone holding the priesthood. You are then an official member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Siri was excited and nervous. We loved seeing so many people there to support her and our family.  We had lunch with family afterward at Mark's parents out on the sunny patio. It was just perfect. I felt like the planning and worry/stress I had up to last night was worth it in that I woke up worry free and was able to enjoy it all.

Last weekend. Mark shot a wedding in Frederick Maryland, so we  left the kids and made a trip out of it. Love love loved it. Loved being with Mark, loved not cooking cleaning or flossing anyone's teeth but my own. Loved seeing DC, Frederick and Baltimore. Loved the food of course! Thank you Liz, Amy, Kris, Julia, and Mom for being with the girls so we could make this trip happen!

I'm sorry I just love Mark's faces

While Mark was working... I was eating and watching General Conference :)

Mark and his Os!
We planned to do a tour of the stadium but since the Ravens were playing the tours were canceled that day. Mark has a sincere love for Baltimore having visiting the city so much as he has traveled to shoot weddings in this neck of the woods.
