Ruby update

I'm so lazy when it comes to blogging. But, I owe all 6 7 of my readers a fresh post.

First, a warning there are TONS of pictures, and some of them are of Ruby's mass that may be hard to look at. I never wanted to share these before, I was too protective of her. I feel comfortable now and want to share.

I would say that it is unanimous that every member of our family absolutely LOVES Miss Ruby. She is our sunshine, especially to Mark and I. As your kids get older you value their babyness even more. They smile just at the sight of you, they are easy to please with food or play or sleep. They are so precious and snuggley and don't pick their boogers and wipe them who knows where, or refuse to put on a coat or shoes. Although, Ruby does poop in the bathtub a lot, which is a con. The pro is that I clean the tub much more often that I normally would.

Ruby recently had her 9 month checkup. She is 18lb (34%) and 28in (64%). Basically perfect :)  Her mass is looking so much better all the time! It is more than a Christmas miracle, it is a direct blessing from Heavenly Father. He blesses and tries each of us in different ways, and I am grateful that Ruby is thriving and the mass (despite being told it would grow) seems to be shrinking. She will probably have another MRI next summer, but Dr.Grimmer doesn't think he would do surgery until she is 2 or 3 (or not at all if it consistently gets smaller).

Look at these pictures people, it is amazing how much better it gets!
the day she was born.
I had a c-section and got to see her face, but when Mark showed me this it was very hard to look at. It looked worse than I had anticipated, but Mark said it was  better than he had pictured it.  Very nodular and exposed because there wasn't enough skin to cover it.

post biopsy

she has lost all that awesome hair!

ahhh I love her!

took these just a few days ago
we love our own elf on the shelf, er, on the floor, ripping apart the readers digest

p.s. we really love our other 2 girls. And we love how they love each other, and they love us. And then its like a party all the time, except when someone gets hurt or is mean. But mostly the time its a party around here.
Siri and my step dad John

Siri wants a dress "that goes this way" and Jane wants a candy cane, or a hoola hoop
Merry Christmas! Love, me in the 1980's
p.p.s. Liz encourage me to blog and said "just do it, it won't take that long". She lied, this took a long time.

and then I just watched this video and was so moved. You must watch if you haven't already.

A challenge and a trip

In the last month...

My Grandpa Van Dorn passed away a few days ago. The funeral is tomorrow. He was 92 and had pretty good health and a sharp mind until his last moments. All my dad's family grew up and lived in Utah County, we were in Salt Lake, and between my parents divorce and my dad being an alcoholic, I wasn't very close to my Grandpa Dorn, but it still pulled at my heart strings to hear of his passing. Going to the viewing tonight reminded me though, that family is binding. Cousins and family I haven't seen in years were there, and we chatted just like we have been friends all along. It was wonderful.
we visited him a couple weeks ago in the hospital
my dad, mom, aunt connie, uncle john, and grandpa dorn

I ran the Sandy City Firestation 1/2 marathon. I hadn't run that far in years. It felt great. I joined a gym. I know money can't buy happiness, but being able to workout and drop the oldest 2 at the daycare there does make me feel better!  I'm also on day 11 of a 30 day challenge called the Whole30. Read about it and see if you dare do it!
with these 3 cook books anyone could do the Whole30

We went to St.George. I watched a friend do the St.George marathon, we watched General Conference, and just had fun with our kids.

We played a game where the girls would listen for different words during Conference. If they heard the word they got to pick something out of the red cups. Jane didn't really follow, but it helped a ton for Siri.

Ruby is beau.ti.ful. I love her blue eyes and chubby cheeks!  Took her to Dr.Grimmer this week. He said it looks good, she's doing great, and to come back in March for another checkup and an MRI. He suggested surgery would probably be safest when she is 2 or 3 years old, so that he can preserve as much neck muscle as possible and as little blood loss as possible. She's starting to sit up on her own and weighs 16lb.

And today I got to be Siri's show-and-tell at school. "A" is the letter of the week, so she wanted to bring me :)
