I hadn't really thought about it, because of course I knew what I wanted....to be happy, have more money, be a better person. But I'd never laid out specifically what I wanted and how to get there. And I certainly didn't think about it every single day. Until now.I've known this woman from my old neighborhood for a while who is a life coach. It really is amazing how much she has accomplished and how motivated she is (she went from being dirt poor to making $20K in one month during her first year of starting her own business). She does something called a "Life Vision". Its not really coaching, it's more getting you to realize what you want and what you'll do about it.
Anyway, Mark and I spent an afternoon over at her home about a month or two ago basically getting to know ourselves...finding out what we want, why, and how we'll get there. You go through 5 areas of life: relationships (family and social), spiritual, physical, financial/professional, and emotional/personal development. It is written AS IF it were already accomplished (in the present tense) and then recorded and listened to daily.
It amazed me how little I had thought about what I want in this life, how broad my thoughts were. So, now Mark and I each listen to a recording of ourselves on our ipods telling us our goals and accomplishments. No I haven't made a million dollars or learned any new languages, but, I have improved myself in little ways. It's hard to explain, it just changes how you think and more importantly how you act. I definitely feel more motivated, productive, and optimistic. If you happen to be interested in doing one for yourself, let us know.
